How to Add Trails

Adding trails to WikiHike will allow other members find new hikes. Any time you go for a hike, come back and create a page for that specific hike using the guidelines below.

Simplified Process Description
- You must be a member to edit WikiHike. Becoming a member costs nothing and carries no risks. Provide as much or as little personal information as you wish. Click here to join.
- Search for the hike you want to add in the left sidebar
- If the hike exists, add your thoughts and pictures to the article
- If the page doesn't exist you will be given a link to create it.
- Follow the "create this page" link and add hiking information
Formatting
It is recommended that you follow current trends in formatting your trail article. This will allow better usability of the site and will ensure that your article is not greatly manipulated from the original state that you create it in.
The Trailfacts Template
Insert information into the template using the following format.

General Description
Place this description immediately following the Trailfacts template. Include general information about difficulty, views, out of the ordinary trail features and potential dangers.
The Trailhead
Include a general description of the trailhead's location, GPS coordinates, and a link to a Google Maps page providing driving directions.
Photos
Use the gallery function to include images you won't be embedding in other parts of the article. See the example below.

Trail Map
Use the googlemap function to create a map of the trail. Include markers at points of particular interest. Embed pictures into the marker if you have them.
Add a table of relevant GPS coordinates for POIs.
Hike Synopsis
Write the description of the hike here. Include mileage estimates of POIs if you have them.
